What’s the best airline to fly domestically?

I’ve been asked this question by my friends and colleagues that know I travel frequently. My answer is always, The airline that gets you to your destination with the least amount of connections for the least amount of money.

I even answered this question over on the website, Quora.com. Here’s the post link and my response to the post below.

Since you’re within the United States, I’m assuming that you’re asking about United States domestic flights.

Alaska, Allegiant, American, Delta, Frontier, Hawaiian, JetBlue, Southwest, Spirit and United all have different routes and while some overlap, some have more direct flights from one airport to another. To fly from my local GSO (Greensboro) airport to FLL (Fort Lauderdale), I only have one option for a direct flight… Spirit… which according to the Washington Post has the least amount of legroom of all US carriers. So I have to decide if it is worth it to book that flight, or book with another airline and have a layover somewhere… or even a third option… drive an hour and a half to Raleigh and fly on JetBlue (who has the most legroom).

I use http://matrix.itasoftware.com/ (now owned by Google) to check available flights as well as https://www.skyscanner.com/ and I make my decision based on the total flight time as well as the cost.

What’s your response to this question? What do you believe is the best airline to fly domestically? I’m sure our readers are very curious to hear your answers!
